Islamophobia is on the rise. There are all too frequent reports of Muslim women being abused in the street, attacks on mosques and a rise of antagonism towards immigrants and Muslims in particular. Many Muslim families and businesses in Sheffield and elsewhere received a despicable letter in the post announcing 3rd April as “Punish a Muslim Day”. It is believed these letters were sent from an address in Sheffield. Many Muslims will be fearful that day. It’s important the trade union movement and all decent people show solidarity on Tuesday with our Muslim brothers and sisters and stand together to denounce racism and cherish our diversity. There is one race – the human race.
