Our speaker at the September Sheffield TUC Delegate meeting was a founding member of Sisters of Kashmir, a Sheffield group set up in response to Indian President Modi’s sudden withdrawal of Indian Kashmir’s semi-autonomous status on 5th August this year. What followed was a total lockdown, phones cut off, news blackout, social media suppressed and a curfew enforced by military rule. All politicians have been put under house arrest whilst thousands of others have been rounded up and detained. We agreed to send a letter of protest to the Indian High Commission in London.
