Ray Jackson, who has been poorly for some time, was a stalwart of Sheffield TUC, always present on International Workers Day to tend to the wreaths, always willing to hold the Sheffield Trades Council banner on marches and demonstrations, and a regular and active attendee at our Executive Committee and Delegate Meetings. A very principled man with strong views, a sound trade unionist and internationalist. He could be blunt and obstinate and wouldn’t suffer fools gladly. An ASLEF member and loyalist to the core and a strong supporter of the retired members and pensions issues. He took great care of Bill Ronksley in his latter years as his health deteriorated, visiting him regularly as a true loyal friend. Sheffield TUC sends its deep-felt condolences to his family and will always hold his memory with the deepest respect. When we know of the funeral arrangements, we will pass this on.
