Sheffield Trade Union Council supports NEU (National Education Union) members at Westways Primary School who have voted overwhelmingly to take strike action on Wednesday 6th, Thursday 7th, Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th December. There is the potential for further action after the Christmas break should there be no settlement of the dispute. The school will be largely or fully closed on strike days.
The NEU held a community meeting to update parents and community members on Wednesday 29th November at the Burton Street Foundation, 57 Burton Street, Sheffield, S6 2HH.
NEU Westways School strike Press Release 28-11-17 (1)
Trade unionists and other supporters are encouraged to visit the picket line outside Westways School, Mona Avenue, Sheffield, S10 1NE from about 7 to 9am followed by breakfast.
See press release attached which gives background to the dispute. NEU has been trying to negotiate a solution to the dispute since June 2017. At the base of the dispute is unacceptable changes to workload imposed without negotiation and the ensuing increased workloads and stress. This has been compounded by the attitude of school management resisting meaningful negotiation.
Message of support can be sent to admin@sheffieldnut.co.uk which will then be passed on to NEU members involved in the dispute
