Fighting back against Fire and Rehire

Sheffield TUC agreed at its March Delegate meeting to support workers who are fighting back against Fire and Rehire – an increasingly common tactic being used by employers as they seek to roll back workers’ terms and conditions post-COVID.

We have sent £100 donations to the GMB British Gas dispute and the UNITE Go-Ahead bus dispute in Manchester – currently the two leading fightbacks against this disgraceful form of attack. solidarity with GMB Britsh Gas engineeers on strike v Fire and Rehire

solidarity with UNITE Go-Ahead bus workers on strike v Fire and Rehire

We urge union branches (and Labour Party and other organisations) to also consider making donations as these disputes can only continue if they receive support from the wider movement.

I attach a model motion currently being circulated by UNITE on Fire and rehire. End fire and rehire – UNITE model motion

Although targeted at CLPs, it can be adapted for union branches etc. I urge your branch to adopt such a motion and show support for those fighting back against Fire and Rehire. Their victory will be our victory. Their defeat will be our defeat. We can’t let that happen.

Solidarity!
