Trade union members who are not delegates are welcome to attend as visitors but may not vote.

Thursday 25th January “Workers Plan for Steel” UNITE open meeting

6pm to 8pm Trades and Labour Club, SheffieldS2 5QQ Follow the money 💴

Owner of Tata raked in £3billion profit last year while paying out £1.4billion in dividends. Rishi Sunak’s govt gave £500m from UK taxpayers to build a new arc furnace that won’t make up for the 2800 jobs it culled. #SaveUKsteel

Sharon Graham – General Secretary, Unite the Union; Tata’s pleas of poverty have been exposed as a sham. They are making money hand over fist and will only profit from bringing in more Indian and Dutch steel to the UK if we cut capacity. It is unbelievable the UK government is going along with this. Rather than demanding the investment comes with jobs guarantees, they are giving Tata Steel UK half a billion of taxpayers’ money to slash its workforce and flood the UK with foreign steel. Unite For A Workers’ Economy

Saturday 27th January Protect the Right to Strike: National march and rally in Cheltenham 12 noon Montpellier Gardens, Cheltenham, 12:30 march departs through town centre to Pittville Park (approximately 1 hour walk). 13:30 – rally in Pittville Park

PS We are not aware of any transport from Sheffield

Will you join the demonstration to defend our right to strike in Cheltenham? Celebrate our history. Protest against the government. Stand up for your rights.

Union members from across the country will gather in Cheltenham to mark 40 years since Margaret Thatcher’s Conservative government attacked trade union rights at GCHQ.

Union members were told to resign their membership or be sacked. But after a long campaign by the workers and their families, and the solidarity of the whole union movement, they were reinstated when an incoming Labour government repealed the ban.

Now the Tories are attacking the fundamental human right to strike once again.

Coaches to Cheltenham are being arranged by unions and other groups around the country, with many places subsidised or free. As they become available, we will be listing coach information and how to book. Take a look at the current coach options here.

Troublemakers At Work is a network of rank-and-file trade unionists in Britain, launched after a conference in Manchester in July 2023. We are organised by a democratic committee, without affiliation to political parties or particular unions. We support each other in organising to win change in our workplaces and unions.

Our next online public meeting, on 1 February 2024, will be about the latest anti-strike law – the Strikes (Minimum Service Levels) Act 2023 – and how we can resist it and fight for a full right to strike.  12th -18th February 2024 – TUC HeartUnions Week-Let’s grow our movement!

Last year we saw huge strikes and massive wins for workers. But to remain strong we need to see hundreds more joining a union or stepping up to be a leader in their workplace.

The only way our movement is going to grow is by people like you getting out on the street and having conversations with others about being in a union.

So, can you lead a recruitment stall in your local area?

  • Run your event any time during HeartUnions week, 12th– 18th February
  • Sign up to take part: https://tuccampaigns.typeform.com/heartunions
  • When you’re ready with a date and location for your event, make sure to add it to our map hereso we can keep track of all the activity!
  • We will send you a pack of resources and guidance, and support you along the way!

Sign up here to get started!

And if you have any questions, you can drop me an email here at campaigns@megaphone.org.uk  Thank you for stepping up again,

75 Mines. 3 Sisters. 1 Cause. (And a six-pack of Babycham)

2024 is the fortieth anniversary of the 1984/85 miners’ strike, a dispute that still resonates today. But the strike wasn’t just about pickets vs police – in this hard-hitting musical comedy there are no miners and no cops. Instead, we follow the fortunes of three sisters in a pit village, hit hard by the Government’s war against the miners and determined to set up a branch of ‘Women Against Pit Closures’.

Early 1984, and Olive, Mary and Isabel are sisters whose everyday squabbles collide with a strike that forces them to question their lives, their relationships and their family ties.

This strike wasn’t just a war fought on the battlegrounds of picket line, Parliament and public opinion. It was as much a battle in the homes and families of those fighting for their communities.

We’re Not Going Back tackles the resilience of working communities, the make-and-mend fabric of family and the power of sticking two fingers up to a government hell-bent on destruction… and all with humour, song and a six pack of Babycham.
