Sheffield will see 3 important events this Saturday 7th October, all supported by Sheffield TUC. Unfortunately they clash with each other so you can’t go to them all – but you can try!
- Latin America Dayschool – 9.45am to 4.15pm Quakers Meeting House – a fantastic programme with speakers and informed debate about Cuba, Chile, Peru, Ecuador etc.
- Better Buses South Yorkshire rally with speakers 1130am Fitzalan Square, then a march to The Moor to hand out leaflets supported by Sheffield TUC
- Anti-Boycott Bill protest 12 noon outside Town Hall organised by Sheffield Palestine Coalition against Israeli Apartheid supported by Sheffield TUC
Latin America Dayschool at Quakers Meeting House
Latin America in the front line -We’ve much to learn from the often much more advanced experiences of workers and youth in Latin America. Solidarity makes us stronger!
This dayschool is co-hosted by Sheffield Trades Council, Sheffield Cuba Solidarity Campaign, Chile Solidarity Network, Jubilee Movement Sheffield, Alborada, Sheffield Left
See flyer attached for more details Latin America Dayschool 2023 flyer 7th October
Better Buses South Yorkshire rally 11.30am Fitzalan Square
Saturday’s Better Buses rally for Fair Funding. South Yorkshire has received only a fraction of the funding per head Manchester has had thanks to the Government’s grossly unfair system of allocating finance. We are supporting the S. Yorks Mayor’s call for a fair funding deal – to restore and maintain the network at October 2022 levels, and provide the finance to start the franchising process. Oliver Coppard, South Yorkshire Mayor will be speaking at the start, and Louise Haigh MP, shadow transport minister will be sending a message. We’ll have a wide range of other speakers to reflect the breadth of the campaign.
After some speeches, street theatre and possibly music we will move onto the Moor going by the bus stops on Arundel Gate (we’ll have a new leaflet to distribute.) We’ll finish with more speeches at a brief rally on the Moor where we can distribute more leaflets and possibly use the petition.
Do bring placards if you can (we’ll bring some but handwritten personal messages are really powerful.
We’ve had 3 very successful campaign stalls across the region to publicise the rally – our 4th will be on Weds Oct 4th from 11.30 to 1pm outside the Moor Market (if weather is bad we’ll move to outside Debenhams at the top of the Moor where there is shelter from the elements). do join us if you can!
Next BBSY meeting: Monday Oct 9th, 2pm on Zoom.

Anti-Boycott Bill Protest outside Sheffield Town Hall at 12 noon
PLEASE URGE PEOPLE IN YOUR CIRCLES TO JOIN US ON SATURDAY OCTOBER 7TH OUTSIDE THE TOWN HALL AT 12.00. FOR SHEFFIELD’S CONTRIBUTION TO A NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION AGAINST THE BILL.
The Tory Government’s anti-Boycott Bill (The “Economic Activity of Public Bodies (overseas matters) Bill”) is designed to stop our boycott, sanctions and divestment (BDS) movement to put pressure on Israel re its apartheid policies and inhumane treatment of occupied Palestine. It is an affront to democracy because it prevents public bodies e.g. Local Government, public sector pensions and other public sector organisations from taking democratic decisions independently of the current Tory Government. Their uncritical support for Israel (and opposition to any criticism from the rest of us!) couldn’t come at a worst time when we are seeing a far-right Israeli Government intensifying its oppression of the Palestinian population with increasing ferocity. Please support us!
