Tuesday 20th January    Open Sheffield Stop the War zoom meeting

6pm zoom If you want to join our committee and discussions write to sheffieldantiwarcoalition@yahoo.co.uk

As the USA loses ground economically,  it is seeking to fill the gap militarily.  Trump will feel emboldened by the military action in Venezuela.   The world’s war machine is growing at the rate of 9.4% a year.. It is currently at $2.7 trillion ($2,700,000,000,000)

The media have accepted the self-fulfilling prophesy,” if the world is becoming more unstable we have to tool up for a new war”.. In a world with nuclear weapons this is a bad strategy. We in Stop the War Coalition take the view that humanity faces a number of major challenges: the climate, disease, automation, forever chemicals, growing racism, growing inequality. The wars are a human catastrophe and preventing joint action to solve these other problems. The challenges we face are huge and growing. We need to increase our size and our activity. We are looking to form groups in the Universities, hospitals etc.

Friday 30th January  Birmingham Bin Strike Mega Picket

The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) has been proud to stand with Birmingham’s striking refuse workers from day one. When the council first floated the idea of using our members to break the strike, we responded by backing Megapicket 1.  When council-appointed government commissioners declared they were finished negotiating with the workers, we escalated our support and backed Megapicket 2. Since then, we’ve raised funds, marched alongside the strikers, and welcomed Birmingham refuse workers to FBU meetings and events across the country. For us, it’s simple: we will stand with the Birmingham bin workers for as long as it takes — until they win. Today marks one year since the start of the strike action and that’s why I’m asking you to join me, and the FBU, in mobilising the biggest Megapicket this city has ever seen on Thursday 30 January.  Please RSVP using the button below, so Strike Map can send you details of where and how to take part.

RSVP to join the Megapicket in Birmingham on 30 January 2026. Book accommodation the night before 29 January 2026 I’ll see you on the picket line on 30 January.  Victory to the Brum Bin Strikers!  Steve Wright, General Secretary, Fire Brigades Union

Saturday 14th February Fundraising For Sudan Fleeing Bara & El- Fasher Event.

Venue: SADACCA, 48 The Wicker, Sheffield S3 8JBSince 2023, Sudan has faced what the United Nations has described as the world’s largest displacement crisis.

www.peace-for-sudan.org.uk

The situation reached a critical point in North Darfur (Al-Fasher) following the events of 28 October 2025. Today, the town of Tawila has become a major refuge for hundreds of thousands of people fleeing ongoing violence. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reports that the displaced population there has exceeded 650,000 individuals. Humanitarian conditions are catastrophic—Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has recorded emergency-level malnutrition among newly displaced families, while UNICEF warns that more than 130,000 children remain at severe risk due to a lack of food, water, and essential medical care.

Peace for Sudan CIC was established to respond to this urgent crisis. We are a community-driven organisation committed to assisting vulnerable populations affected by conflict and displacement. Our mission is to deliver life-saving humanitarian support, uphold dignity, and promote long-term recovery for those impacted by war. We work both in Sudan and the United Kingdom to meet immediate needs and empower refugees to rebuild their lives with hope and resilience.

It is our great honour to invite you to our Fundraising and Awareness Event on Saturday, 14 February 2026, dedicated to supporting the displaced people of Tawila. All proceeds from the event will directly fund initiatives providing food, medical aid, and emergency shelter for families who have lost everything.

The evening will feature a special programme celebrating Sudanese culture and reflecting on the ongoing humanitarian crisis. Your presence and support would mean a great deal. Together, we can stand in solidarity with the people of Tawila and help bring hope to those most in need.

Yours sincerely, AYOUB MOHAMMED

Saturday 7th March 2026    ‘Kneecap’ Film Screening

Doors open at 6.30pm and the screening will begin shortly after 7pm followed by a group discussion on the politics and themes of the film!

CADS – Creative Arts Development Space, Sheffield, S2 4QP. Join us for our first returning event of 2026 – a film screening of KNEECAP! This event is at our previous venue (formerly Theatre Deli) Now – CADS, Cuthbert House, Arley Street, Sheffield, S2 4QP.

About the film;

Kneecap is a bold, anarchic Irish-language film that blends dark comedy, social realism, and music culture to tell the origin story of the real-life Belfast rap trio of the same name. Set primarily in West Belfast, the film follows three young men who unexpectedly become the figureheads of a radical Irish-language hip-hop movement, using satire, provocation, and raw energy to challenge authority, identity, and cultural complacency. At its core, Kneecap is about language, power, and rebellion against colonialism & imperialism. The story centres on working-class youth navigating Northern Ireland, where the Irish language is politicised, marginalised, and often treated as a relic. Through chaotic encounters with police, courts, teachers, and politicians, the trio turn Irish rap into a weapon of cultural resistance—loud, crude, and unapologetic. The film mixes fictionalised storytelling with real events and performances, giving it a semi-biographical, near-documentary edge.
