Saturday 10th January “Hands Off Venezuela” Sheffield Stop the War
Assemble 12 noon outside Sheffield Town Hall. Come and join us to protest the USA’s illegal military assault on Venezuela and the kidnapping ofi ts President Nicolas Maduro. Trump has all but admitted this was a pretext to seize Venezuelan oil reserves in one of the most blatent neo-colonial interventions by a world power in the 21st Century. It doesn’t stop there: Trump is already threatening to annex Greenland and has also announced his sights are set on Cuba, Colombia and Mexico. Meanwhile Eiropean leaders like Keir Starmer have stayed silent, preferring not to upset the US President. We demand the UK calls out Trump now and protests this new wave of 21stc USA imperialsim.

6pm SADACCA The Wicker S3 8JB. The new year begins with Reform UK top of the polls, far right protests continuing outside hotels and Tommy Robinson announcing a mass mobilisation in May. But this is no time for defeatism. We need to hit the road running to build an anti-racist movement to take them on and turn the tide. That’s why next Tuesday’s organising meeting for” together against the far right “initiative hosted by Stand up to racism and Sheffield trades council is so important. The together against the Far right demonstration on Sat 28 March 2026 can be a game changer. It can bring new forces into the anti-fascist movement, build a cultural wing against the far right and give a lift to every anti-racist. It can be an important step in turning the tide against Farage, Robinson and the far right.

As the USA loses ground economically, it is seeking to fill the gap militarily. Trump will feel emboldened by the military action in Venezuela. The world’s war machine is growing at the rate of 9.4% a year.. It is currently at $2.7 trillion ($2,700,000,000,000)
The media have accepted the self-fulfilling prophesy,” if the world is becoming more unstable we have to tool up for a new war”.. In a world with nuclear weapons this is a bad strategy. We in Stop the War Coalition take the view that humanity faces a number of major challenges: the climate, disease, automation, forever chemicals, growing racism, growing inequality. The wars are a human catastrophe and preventing joint action to solve these other problems. The challenges we face are huge and growing. We need to increase our size and our activity. We are looking to form groups in the Universities, hospitals etc.

Some speakers have already confirmed for our Sheffield march for Palestine on 24th January, organised by Sheffield Friends of Palestine. Start spreading the word amongst friends, neighbours, work colleagues and family!
Friday 30th January Birmingham Bin Strike Mega Picket
The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) has been proud to stand with Birmingham’s striking refuse workers from day one. When the council first floated the idea of using our members to break the strike, we responded by backing Megapicket 1. When council-appointed government commissioners declared they were finished negotiating with the workers, we escalated our support and backed Megapicket 2. Since then, we’ve raised funds, marched alongside the strikers, and welcomed Birmingham refuse workers to FBU meetings and events across the country. For us, it’s simple: we will stand with the Birmingham bin workers for as long as it takes — until they win. Today marks one year since the start of the strike action and that’s why I’m asking you to join me, and the FBU, in mobilising the biggest Megapicket this city has ever seen on Thursday 30 January. P
