Friday 17th October   “Stand with Palestine” rally

Thursday 23rd October Climate Conversations

7pm – 9pm Doors at 6:40pm 38 Mappin St Sheffield City Centre S1 4DT

Climate Conversations Sheffield presents the Barstool Project findings.  What does the average citizen think about climate change and what to do about it? We present our research from the streets of Sheffield.

“We (Lauren Jones and Dr “Kathy Aston) are Climate Conversations Sheffield, and we have spent over three years listening to ordinary people in shopping centres, markets, sports centres, parks, and other public spaces talk about climate change. We asked them three open questions: how did they feel about it; what did they think had the biggest effect on climate change; and what did they think should be done about it – and by whom. The answers might surprise you!”

Saturday 15th November COP30 Sheffield rally and events

THIS WORLD IS OURS! RESIST. RECLAIM. RISE UP FOR SYSTEM CHANGE!

11am Assemble Devonshire Green (S1 4GT) for MARCH then RALLY at City Hall

“Save the date for the Global Day of Action for Climate Justice – please share the leaflet attached with friends, family, communities and all your organised groups and email lists.

COP30 in Belém, Brazil is set to be one of the most consequential climate summits in recent years. With key commitments up for renegotiation and the summit taking place in the heart of the Amazon – a key symbol in the fight against climate breakdown – it’ll be a crucial test for the power of our movements. With record heat in our atmosphere and oceans driving climate disasters across the globe, billionaire wealth soaring ever higher and billions left behind in poverty, there is no time left to lose. If we’re to have any hope of a liveable planet, we must end our reliance on fossil fuels – fast, fair and forever – and transform our economic systems to work for people and planet. This is also a great opportunity for groups from across the climate movement to build solidarity with migrant justice amidst the rise of the far right and the deepening hostile environment.”

Lucinda Wakefield CJC South Yorkshire and STUC Delegate (Climate Coordinator)

In 2024, the TUC voted to back a Year of Trade Union Climate Action, engaging with community and climate justice groups. This has been backed by a large number of national unions. Sheffield Trade Union Council has also passed the motion and signed up to this. It will kick off this autumn, with a key moment of global solidarity in November (14th November Day of Action) during the UN climate negotiations, COP30, in Brazil. We want active support from as many local trade unions as possible – a really powerful year of action can only be built from the grassroots up.

Saturday 29th November     National Palestine Day

We have had confirmation that Sheffield Town Hall will be flying the Palestine flag on this day and that Palestine Ambassador H.E. Husam Zomlot will attend. We expect there to be a public meeting and/or a rally outside Town Hall. The details are to be worked out and publicised in due course so please make a note in your diaries
