Wednesday 12th June FBU rally – Stop the Fire Service Cuts! 1230hrs Outside Town Hall Pinstone Street, Sheffield. See flyer attached. Speakers include Matt Wrack FBU General Secretary. South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority is recommending £8M cuts. That’s 84 firefighters’ jobs, reducing fire engine crews from 5 to 4 and leaving Sheffield nigh cover to just one fire engine and 4 crew. Bring your banners!
Friday 14th June Remembering Grenfell rally 5pm to 6pm outside Sheffield Town Hall, Pinstone Street. 2 years on, and many survivors still not rehoused, the inquiry drags on with no prosecutions in sight and many, many high rise blocks around the country are still cladded in dangerous, flammable material. Saturday 15th June and Sunday 16th June “Small Park Big Run” Meersbrook Park Sheffield Supporting women’s education and the Khuzaa children’s healing project in Gaza, Palestine. Opened Saturday 12 noon by Louise Haigh MP. Individuals and teams sign up to run the 1km circuit, including all night! The Scholarship Fund – a UK based charity set up in 2007 to support women into education in Gaza. The Fund raises money for scholarships to pay the university fees of Palestinian women into higher education in the Gaza Strip. Sheffield Palestine Solidarity Campaign -committed to highlighting injustices suffered by Palestinian people. SPSC supports children’s projects in Gaza and has funded better play facilities and a mobile library. More recently we have funded a trauma centre to help recovery from the psychological impact of war.

People are being taken from our communities and locked up in prison-like detention centres, without time limit, with no idea of when they might be released. Why? They just don’t (yet) have the correct immigration papers.. This workshop is for anyone who is worried about detention – for yourself or someone else – with information and advice on various things that you do.

Sunday June 23, Regional TUC Conference on Racism and Fascism
12-5pm at Theatre Deli in Sheffield. After the European elections – How do we stop the rise of the far right? Organised by Stand Up to Racism and supported by Yorks and Humber TUC. Speakers include Joanne Thomas Regional TUC President and Reg. Sec USDAW. The Conference takes part at the end of the Migration Matters festival – Refugee Week – also at Theatre Deli, which includes cultural and political events from June 14-22. There will be a SUTR stall and a Cyrille Regis exhibition on show during the festival which Yorkshire and the Humber TUC are supporting and publicising.
The conference will be the main follow up to recent activities and of course come after the Trump demo and Euro elections so it’s important it reflects the work we’re doing, particularly with trade unions.

People are pushing the campaign through their community groups, voluntary organisations, charities, trade unions, activist groups, faith communities, student societies, sports clubs… the list keeps growing! This workshop will introduce the campaign, and discuss how we can build in Sheffield and the surrounding areas.
